CC Police Officer Injured In Friday Afternoon Crash

Charles City, Iowa – On Friday at 12:34pm, the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office responded to a crash at the intersection of Owen and Pfeifer.

41 year old Lenny Luft, an officer with the Charles City Police Department was traveling eastbound on Owen Street in a 2015 Ford Explorer Police Utility owned by the City of Charles City while 58 year old Jeffrey Gelner of Charles City was northbound on Pfeifer in a 1996 Dodge Dakota.

Gelner failed to yield to a yield sign causing Luft to strike Gelner’s vehicle on the driver’s side.

Luft sustained minor injuries due to the airbag deployment. No other injuries were reported.

Damage to the CCPD cruiser was estimated at $10,000, while there was approximately $2,000 to Gelner’s vehicle.
