West Union, Iowa (AP) – Authorities say they’re investigating a murder-suicide in Fayette County.

The county sheriff’s office said Tuesday that deputies were dispatched a little before 9 p.m. Monday to investigate a report about gunshots at a West Union apartment complex. The deputies said they found the body of a woman on the ground outside the complex. She was found dead of a single gunshot, said Fayette County Sheriff Marty Fisher.

The sheriff’s office said a man seen leaving the scene in a pickup was found shot to death in the truck about 16 miles north along Iowa Highway 150, south of Calmar.

Fisher told the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier it was a murder-suicide. Fischer added, “He took her life (and) fled the scene.”

Their names haven’t been released.
