Winter Weather Causes Slick Roads, Accidents

Floyd County Sheriff

Charles City, Iowa – The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office was busy again last week with what is hopefully winter’s last hurrah (but don’t count on that.)

On Thursday at 1:41am, deputies responded to a collision involving a DOT snowplow and a car on Highway 218.

30 year old Tar K. Kree of Cedar Rapids was northbound on Highway 218 near 240th Street when he lost control while attempting to pass a Iowa DOT snowplow being driven by 58 year old Paul A. Jacobson of Waverly. Kree’s vehicle struck the blade of the plow causing damage to his front bumper.

No injuries were reported and Kree’s vehicle sustained less than $1,000 in damage.

At 8:26am, there was another accident reported next to the 200 mile marker on the Avenue of the Saints in which a vehicle driven by 21 year old Austin M. Boyke of Verona Wisconsin was westbound when he lost control of his vehicle due to the icy conditions. He entered the east ditch and rolled, coming to rest on it’s wheels.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed out of the ditch and was able to be driven away. Estimated damage is valued at $1,500.
