Mother Nature was not kind to our spring sports calendar yesterday as the Charles City Comet girls track team had their invitational track meet at Comet Field cancelled.  The Comet boys and girls golf teams were also prevented from competition yesterday due to the weather.  The Comet boys were set to host Waukon and the girls were going to travel to Waukon to open up the Northeast Iowa Conference schedule.  The Comet boys will now host Waukon on April 22, while the girls will make up their duel meet with the Indians on May 3rd.

Mother Nature did not prevent the Charles City and Nashua trapshooting team from hosting their meet at the Nashua Gun Club yesterday with Osage and Saint Ansgar.  Saint Ansgar Red was able to win the meet as the team of Alex Maiers, Taylor Krahenbuhl, Dakota Branstad, Emma Walling and Nicole Hemann shot a team score of 222.  Osage 7 finished in second place as a team with a score of 204.  Osage 7 consisted of Adam Koch, Shelby Prochaska, Jadie Popp, Shelby Berhow and Cody Berhow.  Charles City’s best squad was Charles City 1 which finished in fourth place with a team score of 198.  Shooters on Charles City 1 were Jacob Greenzweig, Izzy Worrall, Luke Hillegas, Nick Wegner and Aaron Wright.  Alex Maiers of Saint Ansgar was the medalist for the boys as he finished with a score of 48.  Bryce Hickle of Osage claimed second place on the boys side with a score of 47.  Aaron Wright was Charles City’s top individual boy as he earned sixth place with a score of 43.  On the girls side, Shelby Berhow from Osage shot a 45 to claim the medal, Saint Ansgar’s Emma Walling shot a 43 to claim second, and Sydney North was Charles City’s top female shooter as she finished with a 41 which put her in a tie for fourth place.  The Charles City and Nashua trap team will host their invitational meet this Saturday.
