Waverly, Iowa – After a year of planning and right on schedule, Waverly Utilities is hooking up its first customers this week to a brand new one gigabyte fiber optic internet system.

Last year, Waverly Utilities called for construction of the fiber backbone to begin last summer and be completed by March of this year, with the first test customers on board by April 4th of this year. A spokesperson for Waverly Utilities says over 1,100 customers have already signed up for the service in the community of Waverly.

The roll-out will continue over the next three months, with the new system fully operational by July 1st.
