Charles City To Flush Water Distribution System In May

Fire Hydrant And Hose

Charles City, Iowa – The Charles City Water Department will begin flusing the city’s water distribution system on May 2nd and will be finished by May 30th.

Annual flushing of the hydrants is necessary to provide better quality water and fire protection. Customers may experience fluctuations in pressure and/or discoloration of their water during flushing.

The flushing will also allow the water department to operate all fire hydrants in the distribution system and identify any maintenance requirements for each fire hydrant on an individual basis.

The water departments asks that if citizens experienced discolored water, run the cold water tap until it clears. During periods of discoloration, postpone washing clothes and limit the use of hot water until the cold water clears.

For questions or concerns, call the Charles City Water Department at 641-257-6315.
