Ex-School Board Candidate Seeks Attorney For Sentencing

Charles City, Iowa (AP) – A former magistrate arrested on a sex abuse charge last year while running for the local school board is now asking for a lawyer to be appointed to help him at his sentencing.

60 year old Doug Lindaman served as his own attorney during his trial earlier this month, when he was found guilty of third-degree sexual abuse. Authorities say Lindaman fondled a 17-year-old boy in 2011.

Lindaman has now asked the court to appoint him an attorney for his sentencing hearing on June 7, when he faces up to 10 years in prison.

A former attorney and magistrate in Floyd County, Lindaman was convicted in 1988 of two counts of lascivious acts with minors. He lost his law license after that conviction.
