Celebrate Arbor Day In Greene On Friday, Get A Free Tree

Greene, Iowa – The City of Greene and Greene’s Trees Forever Committee will celebrate Arbor Day with a tree planting ceremony on Friday. The ceremony will start at 3 p.m. and will be held at the vacant lot at the intersection of South First Street and Courtland Avenue.

Greene’s Mayor Jim O’Brien will read the city’s Arbor Day Proclamation following by a tree planting demonstration.

Trees Forever will be on hand to give out free tree seedlings including oaks, pines and other varieties. Trees will range in height from one to three feet including the roots.

People receiving tree seedlings are advised to keep the roots moist until planting and water the tree immediately after planting. People are also advised to call 811 before digging a hole for a tree.

The tree giveaway will start at 3:15 on Friday following the Arbor Day Proclamation. For more information contact Trees Forever at 641-816 -3333.
