Starting Line

The Charles City Comet girls and boys track teams were in Hampton on Friday competing in the Bulldog Relays along with ten other schools.  The Comet girls were able to claim the team title with 159 team points which was over fifty points more than second place West Fork.  Charles City’s girls earned first place team points in five events which included Whitney Martin in the 1500 meter run, Sara Martin in the shot put and discus, the team of Brianna Carey, Sadie Ruzicka, Shae Etherington and Troi Mayhorn in the 4×100 meter relay, and the team of Etherington, Ruzicka, Hanna Bjelica and Whitney Martin in the distance medley relay.  In the boys division, the Comets wound up in second place on the night as they finished with 104 points which was 41 points behind Forest City.  The Comet boys were able to earn first place team points in four events which included Gavin Connell in the 3000 meter run, Shane Feller in the long jump, the team of Bryce Foxen, Tyler Brockney, Brandon Bluhm and Feller in the 4×100 meter relay, and the team of Brockney, Zion Jordan, Adam Stewart and Nate Baltes in the 4×200 meter relay.  The Comet boys will return to competition today in New Hampton while the Comet girls will wait until Thursday’s Northeast Iowa Conference meet for their next action.

The Charles City Comet boys golfers fell to Decorah on Friday in a Northeast Iowa Conference head-to-head 18-hole match-up at Cedar Ridge Golf Course.  Decorah finished with a team score of 324, while the Comets finished with 356 team strokes.  Theo Arndt led Charles City with a round of 85, while Nate Lasher wasn’t far behind with an 87.  The Comet boys golfers will hit the links again today as they get set to host Waverly-Shell Rock.

The Charles City, Osage, New Hampton, and Saint Ansgar trapshooting teams competed at the Central Springs Invitational meet at the Osage Gun Club on Saturday.  New Hampton Red took first place at the invitational as they finished with a team score of 230, Osage 7 finished in second place with a team score of 222, Osage 2 and New Hampton black tied for third place with a team score of 215, Saint Ansgar Red was the Saints top team as they claimed a tie for sixth with a team score of 205, CC 1 was Charles City’s best finishing team as they got 16th with a team score of 191.  For the individual results, first on the boys side, Jeff Morische of Osage was the meet medalist with his round of 49, Ben Faktor of Mason City, Joe Jordan and Kevin Burgart of New Hampton and Taylor Krahenbuel of Saint Ansgar all finished in a tie for second with scores of 48, Aaron Wright and Shau Landt were Charles City’s top performers as they each tied for 26th with his rounds of 43.  Hanna Zuehl of Saint Ansgar led all girls with a round of 48, Courtney Prochaska led the Green Devil girls with a round of 45 as she finished in second place, New Hampton’s Anna Holschlag was the best female shooter for the Chickasaws as she shot a 43 to come in fifth, and Izzy Worrall was Charles City’s best finisher as she came in tied for sixth after her round of 41.
