The Iowa High School Athletic Association held their boys sectional golf meets all over the state on Friday to see who would be moving on to Districts next week. The Charles City Comet golfers were in Decorah competing at the Oneota Golf and Country Club. Unfortunately, Charles City was unable to get anybody through to the District Meet as they team title and the top three individual finishes came from West Delaware Manchester. Decorah and Independence also got through their entire teams. The Charles City Comet boys golf team is in action today again in Decorah as they participate in the Northeast Iowa Conference meet.
The Osage Green Devil and Saint Ansgar Saint boys golf team was in Lake Mills at Rice Lake Golf and Country Club for their Class 2A Sectional. Clear Lake took first place as a team with a score of 317 and were led by the meet medalist Kyle Calaguas who had a 77. New Hampton took second place as a team with 342 team strokes and were also able to qualify for the District Meet. Osage came in third narrowly missing out on sending their whole team as they finished with a team score of 353. Drew Olson was able to qualify individually for the Green Devils as he shot an 18-hole round of 80 to finish fourth overall and will golf at the Fox Ridge Golf Course in Dike on Friday. Saint Ansgar finished in fifth overall as they turned in a team score of 359. The Saints were led by Dylan Low who shot an 87.
The Nashua Town and Country Club was the site of the Class 1A Sectional Golf Meet that features the Huskies, North Butler and Rockford. North Butler was able to take the team title with a score of 350 to advance to this Friday’s District Meet. The Bearcats were led by Trevor Wangsness who turned in a meet medalist 18-hole round of 81. Rockford will also be make the trip to Districts as they came in second as a team with a score of 356, which was just a single stroke better than third place West Fork. Leading the way for the Warriors was Zach Westendorf who had an 86. Nashua-Plainfield also had a successful meet as they were able to get two golfers through to Districts individually. Devin Koob shot an 84 and was meet runner-up and his teammate Zach Bond shot an 85 and tied for third place. North Butler and Rockford’s teams and Koob and Bond will play at the District Meet on Friday at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course in Cedar Falls.
The Charles City Comet girls golf team participated in an invitational tournament at Bear Creek Golf Course in Forest City on Friday afternoon along with seven other schools. Mason City High School won the meet with a team score of 185, Clear Lake was second with a 199, Mason City Newman was third with a 200 and Charles City was right behind them in fourth with 202 team strokes. Jamie Sindlinger led the Comets as she finished in third individually with a 44.
Finally today, the Charles City Elk’s Lodge #418 awarded the area’s youth with their annual Youth Banquet last night. Earning male athlete of the year was Shane Feller and the female athlete of the year recipient was Jamie Sindlinger.
