West Union, Iowa (AP) – A 34-year-old man accused of trying to hit a police officer with a vehicle has been found guilty.

Abel Quijas Jr. was convicted of attempted murder Tuesday.

Prosecutors say officers posed as delivery men intercepted a package with crystal methamphetamine from California meant for Quijas in September 2014. A pursuit ensued, and authorities say Quijas tried to kill an Oelwein police officer by running him over with a car.

Quijas was treated for a gunshot wound after the incident. He faces up to 25 years in prison.
