In a game heard right here on KCHA last night, the Charles City Comet baseball team opened up its season at home against Mason City.  The Comets did not fare too well against the quality 4A opponent as they managed just one hit in the game without scoring a run and ultimately lost 10-0.  Comet Sophomore Theo Arndt had the lone Charles City hit and senior Brady Sickman walked twice for the Comet offense.  The Comet defense was a little shaky as they committed eight errors on the night which led to six Mohawk runs.  The Comet baseball team will look to get their first win of the season tomorrow night at MFL Mar Mac.

The Nashua-Plainfield Husky baseball team was able to knock off Rockford last night in both teams’ season opener.  With the game tied at three after five innings, Nashua was able to push across four runs in the sixth and two in the seventh to win it 9-3.  Mason Hyde picked up the win on the mound for the Huskies as he went all seven innings while striking out 17. Freshman Kaden Lyman took the loss for Rockford.  Nashua and Rockford will play again tonight as the Huskies will host Northwood-Kensett and the Warriors will be at West Fork.

The Nashua-Plainfield softball team had their season opener last night as well as hosted Central City.  The Huskies fell behind eight to three after two innings and couldn’t climb out of that hole as they were beat 13-3.  Husky sophomore Briley Fisher went 1-3 on the night with a solo home run and Sydney Hanson and Sammi Hyde had the other runs batted in for Nashua.  Nashua’s softball team will host Northwood-Kensett tonight.

The Osage Green Devil softball team found themselves in a pitcher’s dual last night at Crestwood.  Single runs for the Cadets in the first and third was all the offense on the night as Osage fell 2-0.  Autumn O’Malley pitched the complete game for the Green Devils and gave up the two runs on three hits and struck out six.  Osage got two hits apiece from Destiny Thompson and Hannah Huebsch as they had eight hit in all, but just couldn’t get the big one.  The Osage softball team is back at it tonight as they get set to host Central Springs.

Also on the schedule for our local teams tonight: the Charles City Comet softball team will host Turkey Valley.  You can tune into this game right here on KCHA starting with a pregame at about 7:15 and first pitch is scheduled for 7:30.

The North Butler Bearcat softball and baseball teams will host Mason City Newman in Top of Iowa Conference games.  First pitch for the softball game is set for 6pm while the baseball game will get started at about 7:30.

The Saint Ansgar Saints baseball team will host a double header tonight against Cresco.  The first game will begin at 4pm.
