Officer, Paramedic Collide While Responding To Same Medical Call

Charles City, Iowa – On Sunday at 8:59pm, the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office responded to the intersection of 8th Avenue and I Street in Charles City for a two vehicle accident.

45 year old Charles City Police officer Doyle Schmidt of Charles City was traveling eastbound on 8th Avenue in a city owned 2014 Chevrolet Tahoe when he collided with a 2006 Chevrolet Suburban being operated by 51 year old Kenford Simon also of Charles City who was traveling southbound on I Street.

Both vehicles were responding to a medical emergency in the 500 block of J Street at the time of the crash.

The city owned vehicle sustained close to $10,000 in damage while damage to Simon’s vehicle was estimated at close to $6,000.

No injuries were reported an both cars had to be towed from the scene.
