Charles City, Iowa – Get a running start to your Fourth of July celebration this year by taking part in the annual Charley Western Firecracker 5K/5 Mile Race on Monday morning, July 4.

The five-mile race option returns this year, along with the 5K, when the starter’s gun goes off at 7:30 a.m. in front of Charles City High School, #1 Comet Drive. Registration forms are now available through the Charles City Community Development Office at 401 N. Main St., or register online by clicking here. The registration fee is $30 per person through June 22, then $35 up to race day. Pre-registration is highly recommended, as signing up after June 22 does not guarantee you a Firecracker 5 T-shirt. Shirts will be available as long as supplies last.

The Firecracker 5 is put on by Community Revitalization of Charles City, with proceeds going towards the upkeep and improvement of the Charley Western Recreational Trail that loops around town and is utilized for much of the race.

An awards ceremony will be held at approximately 8:45 a.m., with first through third-place medals awarded for male and female winners in 11 different age categories. Those range from age 14 and under, to 60 and up.

For more information, please visit the Community Development Office, visit www.ccrevite.com.
