Marlys Howe, 92, of Charles City, passed away Thursday, June 2, 2016 at the Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.
Family and friends will gather at Hauser Funeral Home 2:00 p.m. Monday June 6th and process to Riverside Cemetery for the 3:00 p.m. graveside service.
Marlys Ruth (Dostart) Howe, the daughter of Matt and Martha (Yueck) Dostart, was born May 21, 1924 in Charles City, Iowa. She attended IC Catholic School and then Charles City High School in Charles City. Some of Marlys’ jobs included working at the popcorn stand, several different C.N.A jobs, and retail. One of Marlys’ proudest accomplishments was finding a job no matter where the family traveled to. Marlys was a loving mother to her three children, Marlene, Dennis, and Linda. She was united in marriage to Wilbur Howe on June 16th 1956 in Charles City. The couple often spent time together fishing Minnesota. They were married for over 40 years before Wilbur’s death in 1996.
Marlys was an active lifetime member of the VFW. She enjoyed word searches, crocheting, creating polyester quilts, and bowling.
Living family members include her daughters, Marlene Kokal of Charles City, and Linda Osier of Nashua; grandchildren Jennifer Kokal of Danbury, WI, Mark (Rhonda) McCumber of New Hampton, Angela (Michael) Shirley of Oxford Junction, Shawn (Veronica) McCumber of Killeen, TX, and Peter (Wendy) Kokal of Charles City, and five great grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wilbur in 1996; five brothers and three sisters, son Dennis Wilson in 2013, and son-in-law Tom Osier.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be directed to the American Heart Association.
