New Hampton, Iowa – Removal of the existing bridge and replacing with an arch culvert on U.S. 18 over Haugh Creek 0.4 mile west of the junction of U.S. 18 and Fayette County Road V-68 requires closing the roadway to traffic beginning Monday, June 13, until late October, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s New Hampton construction office.

Through traffic during construction will be detoured using Chickasaw County Road V-56/Union Avenue, Fayette County Road B-44/210th Street, and Fayette County Road V-68/West Avenue.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
