UPDATE: Flag Day Celebration To Be Held At Elks Lodge

UPDATE: Due to the threat of severe weather, the flag day celebration will take place at 5pm at the Charles City Elks Lodge.

Charles City, Iowa – A flag day celebration will be held on Tuesday, June 14th beginning at 5 p.m. at Central Park in Charles City, which will be presented by the Charles City Elks Lodge.

Mayor Jim Erb will present a proclamation during the ceremony.

The Flag Day observance commemorates the adoption of The Stars and Stripes that took place on June 14, 1777. The idea of celebrating the birthday of the flag is believed to have been originated in Wisconsin in 1855.

In 1907, the Grand Lodge of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks designated by resolution June 14 as Flag Day. The Grand Lodge adopted mandatory observance of the occasion by every Elks Lodge in 1911.

Rain location of the event will take place at the Elks Lodge in Charles City.
