Charles City Comets

The Charles City Comet baseball team had to play at a neutral site on Friday afternoon as they continue to deal with field conditions.  The Comets and the Decorah Vikings met up in Riceville for a Northeast Iowa Conference game.  The game turned out to be a pitcher’s duel as the Comets had the only run through the first four innings.  That run was scored by Wyatt Stevenson in the bottom of the second innings.  Comet pitcher Drew Mitchell held the Vikings at bay until the fifth when Decorah was able to score a single run in the last three innings and won the game 3-1.  Mitchell pitched the complete game and gave up one earned run on seven hits and struck out three.  Brady Sickman and Nate Lasher each had multiple hits for the Comet offense.  The loss puts Charles City baseball at 6-7 overall this year and they are now 4-4 in NEIC play.  They will again be in conference play tonight as they travel to Cresco to take on the Cadets.
