Mason City, Iowa (AP) – Mason City police say they’ve recovered a rifle and shotgun stolen last month from an unmarked police vehicle.

Sgt. Steven Klemas says two people called police Tuesday to report that they’d found what they believed were the two guns. Officers later met the two and determined that the M16 rifle and 12-gauge shotgun indeed were the weapons that had been taken.

Lt. Rich Jensen says police don’t believe the two had anything to do with the theft. He wouldn’t say where the weapons were found, citing the continuing investigation. No arrests have been reported.
