There will be a couple of big games today on our family of stations.  This afternoon right here on KCHA, the Charles City Comet softball team will play in the first round of the Class 4A State Tournament.  The Comets will take on the top-rated team in Class 4A, Carlisle.  Charles City comes into the game with a record of 24-10 while Carlisle is 36-6 this season.  The Comets will most likely send senior Megan Roethler to the circle where she has a 14-6 pitching record with an ERA of 1.39.  Roethler has 88 strikeouts in 125 and third innings pitched.  Carlisle will probably have senior Gabby Schnathorst do the pitching this afternoon.  Schnathorst is 30-5 this season with an ERA of 0.90 with 181 strikeouts in 178 innings pitched.  This first round matchup will take place at the Rogers Sports Complex in Fort Dodge on Mittera Field.  You can tune into this game right here on KCHA starting with a pregame at about 1:15 with first pitch scheduled for 1:30.

The New Hampton Chickasaw baseball team will be looking for their first trip to the State Tournament in school history tonight as they will take on Denver in Waverly.  The third-ranked Chickasaws are 29-4 this season while Denver comes in with a record of 19-15.  In their one previous match-up this season, the Chickasaws defeated the Cyclones 13-3 in six innings back on June eighth in New Hampton.  This postseason, New Hampton has yet to give up a run as the beat Waukon 1-0 last Tuesday and got past North Fayette Valley 3-0 on Saturday.  Denver has rattled off three straight wins this postseason as they beat South Hardin 7-0 two Saturdays ago, knocked off East Marshall 1-0 last Tuesday and upset Dike-New Hartford 5-3 on Saturday.  This game can be heard on our sister station 951 The Bull tonight with a pregame at about 6:45 with first pitch from Hertel Field on the Wartburg Campus at 7pm.
