The Charles City Comet baseball team was in Saint Ansgar last night in a non-conference game. The Saints jumped out ahead early and then with a seven run fifth inning, it looked as though it was sealed up as Saint Ansgar led 11-2. The Comets would not quit though, as they scored two in the sixth and six runs in the seventh, but fell just short of a historic comeback 11-10. Drew Mitchell led the Comet offense by going 2-2 with three runs scored and an RBI while Theo Arndt, Wyatt Stevenson, and Jordan Kapping each had a pair of runs batted in. Jacob Hyde, Ben Boerjan and Sam Steele all had two hits for the Saints and Boerjan and Steele both had a couple of RBI. The loss gives the Comets an overall record of 7-17 and they will finish up their regular season tonight at Decorah. Saint Ansgar finishes their season with a record of 22-8 and they will begin postseason play on July 12th.
The North Butler Bearcat baseball team concluded their regular season last night at home against Hampton-Dumont. The Bearcats jumped out to a 2-0 lead after two innings and held a 2-1 lead heading into the seventh, but the Bulldogs tied it with a run in the seventh to force extras. Hampton-Dumont then proceeded to score seven runs in the top of the eighth and upended North Butler 9-2. The Bearcats finish their season with a record of 6-16 and will have their first District game on Tuesday.
The Osage Green Devil baseball team will begin postseason play tomorrow night as they will play in Hampton against Lake Mills. The Green Devils finished the regular season with a record of 13-18 while Lake Mills comes in with a record of 14-11. This Class 2A District 4 game will begin at 5pm.
The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union’s regional softball schedule continues this weekend with semi-final games in all classes. The Charles City Comet softball team will host Mason City tomorrow night in a Class 4A Region 4 semi-final. The Comets enter the game with a record of 22-10 while the Mohawks are 10-31. The Comets knocked off Mason at the Mason City tournament 5-2 on June 18th in their only meeting this year. The Osage Green Devil softball team will play in a Class 3A Region 2 semi-final tonight in Cresco. The Green Devils will take on Clear Lake who knocked off a ranked Cresco team on Wednesday night. The Osage softball team is 17-14 this season while the Lions come in at 10-17. Osage bested Clear Lake back on June 18th 10-0 in five innings. First pitch for this game will be at 7pm.
The North Butler Bearcat softball team will try and advance to the Class 1A Region 3 finals tonight as they square off against Central City. The Bearcats come into the game with a 25-3 record while Central City is 24-17. First pitch for this game is at 7pm.
The Rockford Warrior softball team will play in a Class 1A Region 2 semi-final tonight in Algona against Bishop Garrigan. The Warriors are 17-10 overall this season while BG sports a 24-5 record. First pitch for this one will also be at 7pm.
