Mason City, Iowa (AP) – Mason City Police are investigating the theft of more than 150 tires worth $16,500, and the incident may be linked to other cases in the region.

The tires were taken from Mason City Tire Services on July 20.

Mason City Police Capt. Mike McKelvey says investigators believe the thieves stole a Penske rental truck the same night, and then used the truck to haul the tires.

McKelvey says several similar thefts have been reported in nearby states, so the Mason City theft is likely related to those other incidents.
