Charles City man to face lesser charge in 2nd trial

Charles City, Iowa (AP) – A Charles City man will face a lesser sex assault charge in his second trial.

The first trial of 31-year-old Eric Hill ended in a mistrial in June because of a hung jury. A judge granted the prosecutor’s motion Monday to reduce the charge. The new, lower felony charging document removes mention of a dangerous weapon.

Hill was charged last year after a DNA test pointed to him as the man who assaulted a woman at her Charles City home in August 2008. His second trial is scheduled to begin Aug. 23.
