Cedar Rapids, Iowa (AP) – A 24-year-old Iowa man has been imprisoned on a weapons conviction in the accidental shooting death of his father.

Prosecutors say Dale White was given 47 months in prison at his sentencing Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Cedar Rapids. White had pleaded guilty to being a drug user in possession of a firearm. He must serve three years of supervised release after he leaves custody.

Prosecutors say that on Jan. 2, White and his father, Karl White, were handling a .22-caliber rifle in their living room in Nashua when the rifle accidentally fired. The older man was fatally wounded.
