Speed Limit Change To Begin Friday Near Busy Floyd Intersection

Floyd, Iowa – The Iowa Department of Transportation has issued a statement that the speed limit at the Floyd intersection will be lowered beginning this Friday, weather permitting.

Westbound traffic will see the speed limit reduced from 65 mph to 55 mph approximately 1 mile west of the north junction of US 218 and US 18. Eastbound traffic will have a reduced speed limit from 65 mph to 55 mph approximately one-half mile east of the north junction of US 218 and US 18.

State representative Todd Prichard talked about the changes.

Prichard said while this is the first step to changes, other changes are being considered, but will take some time to take place.

Prichard talked about the changes to the speed limit in Floyd were brought on by two tragedies this summer and that it took a dedicated group of people to bring changes as quickly as it did.

Motorists can expect to see electronic signs announcing the speed limit changes and it is hoped the changes will make it easier for motorists to find gaps in traffic to enter and cross the highway.
