The Iowa High School Athletic Association’s State Final football games are underway. Yesterday, 8-Man, Class A and Class 3A all had their title games. In the 3A State Final, Pella was able to beat Webster City 28-18 to capture their third straight title. The Class A title game was decided by one point as Gladbrook-Reinbeck defeated Algona Bishop Garrigan 20-19. And in the 8-man Final, Don Bosco took care of Harris Lake Park 49-21. The other three Classes will hold their State Finals today as Iowa City Regina will go up against Hull Western Christian in the 1A Finals. The Class 2A Finals will consist of Boyden Hull-Rock Valley against Union-LaPorte City. And the final Iowa High School football game of the season will put West Des Moines Valley up against Iowa City West in the 4A State Championship game.
There will be plenty on the line tomorrow when Northern Iowa hosts 10th ranked South Dakota State to close out the regular season. The Jackrabbits are 7-3 overall and will be looking to clinch a title.
That’s UNI coach Mark Farley. The Panthers are fourth in the league race and with a win would finish 6-5 overall. Farley says it will take a big effort by the UNI defense.
Farley was asked if a win would be good enough to get the Panthers into the FCS playoffs.
A victory would give UNI good argument to make the playoff field.
