After graduation, she went to Waterloo and worked the next 15 years; at Powers Manufacturing, Chamberlains manufacture and Rath Packing. She moved to Colorado for a short time. But came back to Iowa and made her home in Charles City, working as a waitress, and later as an Assistant Dietary Aide at Floyd County Memorial Hospital where she retired after 19 years of service.
“Aunt Sues”, as she was known by her family was a favorite; her nieces and nephews have many memorable stories, of the time spent with her. She never forgot a birthday, was always fun to be with, and she was a good sport no matter what. Her laugh was contagious at family functions. Her true passion was bowling. Bonnie’s “Comet Bowling family” was huge; she had so many friends and great memories of her favorite sport. Her life was full of tournaments, trophies and good times. She continued to bowl the fall league of 2015 at the age of 93.
Bonnie was a very active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where, Bible study, Midi’s, setting up church service at the various care facilities, and labeling the newsletters, were some of her favorite activities with her ‘church family’. Bonnie kept busy in later working years by helping out at her ‘extend family’ at the local miniature golf course, doing ironing and house cleaning. For many years she was also happy to drive grain truck during harvest season for the Toebe family. Bonnie was a member of the American Legion, Moose, V.F.W., and the Salvation Army. Every year she spent time bell ringing, selling poppies, and helping veterans. In her free time, she enjoyed embroidery, puzzles, sewing, and spending time with friends and family.
