Man steals truck, crashes it through garage door before fleeing

Rockford, Iowa – A Hancock County man has been arrested for stealing a pickup truck in Cerro Gordo County.

Sheriffs deputies responded to a call on 220th Street near Rockford around 1:43 a.m. on Monday.

The homeowner reported that someone stole their pickup from their garage and drove it through the garage door, causing about $1,000 in damages.

The Iowa State Patrol located the stolen truck approximately two hours later at a ditch at the intersection of 170th Street and Balsam Avenue.

28-year-old Clay Douglas Kelvig of Klemme was arrested and charged with 1st degree theft, 2nd degree criminal mischief, 3rd degree burglary and driving with a suspended or cancelled license.

He was being held on a $10,000 bond.
