Update on Sumner Home Invasion Investigation

Sumner, Iowa – We’re learning more on the home invasion and killing of a Davenport man in Sumner back on January 6th, 2017.

The Iowa Department of Public Safety released a statement on Thursday saying at about 10:55pm on Friday January 6th, the Bremer County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from 1359 Whitetail Avenue in Sumner reporting that someone at the residence had been shot.  Deputies responded and located one person who had been injured and another person who is deceased. The deceased subject was identified as 46 year old Steven Anthony of Davenport, Iowa.

The report goes on to say that the preliminary investigation indicates that shortly after 10:00 pm on January 6th, Anthony arrived at the residence and asked to speak with John Eimers. Immediately following the discussion, Anthony attempted to kill Eimers by shooting him at close range with a handgun.  Eimers was able to return fire, ultimately killing Anthony. Eimers was shot multiple times during the encounter and was transported to the University of Iowa Hospital.  He has since been released.

The Bremer County Sheriff’s Office is being assisted by the Iowa Department of Public Safety’s (DPS) Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI).  Anyone with information that may relate to this incident is asked to call the Bremer County Sheriff’s Office at 319-352-5400, option #3.
This investigation is ongoing.
