The Iowa High School State Wrestling Tournament began yesterday with first round and first round consolations held in all classes.  The Class 2A session was the last of the day and you heard it here on KCHA.  It featured four wrestlers from Charles City and five wrestlers from Osage.  For the Comets, Nate Lasher was able to win an 11-9 decision at 132 pounds over Carson Hartnett of Webster City.  Lasher will wrestle in the Quarter-Finals tonight against Ryan Steffan of Crestwood.  Dylan Koresh at 145 pounds was defeated in the first round 6-2 against Justin Smith of Winterset and then lost by fall to Mitchell Mangold of West Delaware, so his first state tournament is over.  Alex Koehler at 182 pounds picked up a 9-3 decision win over Blain Swenson of Waukon, so he advances to the Quarter-Finals and will take on Boone McDermott of Dubuque Wahlert this afternoon.  A.J. Maloy lost his opening round match at 220 pounds 5-3 to Blade Durbala of Benton Community, but then came back and won by fall over Chance Stragh of Clarion.  Maloy will wrestle in the second round consolations this afternoon.  For Osage, Joe Jacobs at 106 pounds lost by fall to Johnny Hua of MOC Floyd Valley and then was defeated by Jacob Mielke in the consolation round.  Jacobs finishes his State Tournament with an 0-2 record.  At 152 pounds, Derek Fox pinned Logan Koedam in the first period to advance to the Quarter-Finals where he will take on Trey Van Weelden of Washington.  Zach Williams at 160 pounds lost both of his matches last night as he lost by fall to Thomas Bentley of Red Oak and then lost by fall to Lucas Roland of PCM Monroe.  Brock Jennings at 170 pounds won by fall in the first period over Brock Timmons of Assumption and will now face Jacob Wingert of Harlan in the Quarter-Finals.  At 220 pounds, Caleb Ring won by fall in the first period over Zach Wegmann of Solon and will take on Kaden Hulett of Creston in today’s Quarter-Final.  State Wrestling coverage continues today with updates of the Class 1A Quarter-Finals and 2nd round consolations and Live hold-by-hold coverage of the Class 2A Quarter-Finals and 2nd Round Consolations.

The Charles City Comet boys basketball team wrapped up their regular season last night at home against Independence.  The Comet boys were dominant as they defeated the Mustangs 77-46.  Charles City’s boys finish their regular season with a record of 15-6 and will focus their attention on the District Tournament.  They will play Crestwood on Monday at home in a Class 3A District 6 Semi-Final.

The Nashua-Plainfield boys basketball team was in Ackley last night for their Class 1A District 5 Quarter-Final against Don Bosco.  The Huskies kept pace with the one-loss Dons for much of the game, but in the end lost by a final score of 57-40.  Nashua’s boys finish their season with a record of 7-16.

The Osage Green Devil boys basketball team took control of their Class 2A District 4 Semi-Final at home against South Winneshiek and were able to cruise to a 62-47 win.  The Green Devil boys improve to 21-1 this season and will take on New Hampton in Charles City on Tuesday in the District Finals.

The North Butler Bearcat boys basketball team saw their season come to a close last night as they lost 58-47 at AGWSR in their Class 1A District 5 Quarter-Final.  The Bearcat boys finish their year with a 7-14 record.

The Rockford Warrior boys basketball team was in Sheffield last night for their Class 1A District 4 Quarter-Final game against Lake Mills.  The Warrior wound up on the losing end of a 65-55 score and end their season with a 13-9 record.

The Saint Ansgar Saints boys basketball team was at home last night taking on Northwood-Kensett in a Class 1A District 4 Quarter-Final.  The Saints won easily by a final score of 60-38 and will now play in the District Semi-Finals on Tuesday against Mason City Newman.
