Youth Mental Health First Aid class to be held April 27th


Charles City, Iowa – A workshop for people who work with youth and families will be held on Thursday, April 27th at the Charles City Library Zastrow Room from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.

The course, Youth Mental Health First Aid, is designed to teach parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff and others about identifying  youth who may be experiencing mental health or addiction challenges.

The course is designed for adults who regularly interact with young people. It will introduce common mental health challenges for youth, review typical adolescent development, and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations.

Topics covered will include anxiety, depression, substance abuse, disorders in which psychosis can occur, disruptive behavior and eating disorders.

Co-sponsors of the workshop are the Mason City Youth Task Force and Floyd County Focus.
