Extra law enforcement expected on roads over the Independence Day holiday

Des Moines, Iowa – The Iowa Department of Public Safety and the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau have issued a statement saying that more law enforcement officers will be out over the July 4th weekend.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that 146 people were killed nationally over the 2015 Fourth of July in drunk driving accidents. In Iowa alone, there were five deaths in 2015 and five deaths in 2016.

The number of fatalities jumped up 3% from 2014 to 2015. That is one person killed every 51 minutes.

Don’t risk endangering yourself or your loved ones this holiday season.
