KCHA Sports Report (6/23)

In a couple of games heard right here on KCHA last night, the Charles City Comet softball team hosted New Hampton in a Northeast Iowa Conference double-header.  The Comets were able to win game one 8-4 and were leading in game two 7-2 in the top of the fourth inning when play had to be suspended due to the weather.  No make-up date has yet been announced.  With the one win from last night, the Comet softball team improves to 23-3 overall this season and they are 10-2 in the NEIC.  Next up for them will be a make-up game at Decorah tonight.

The Nashua-Plainfield Husky baseball team hosted Osage last night in a Top of Iowa Conference match-up.  Osage pounded out 15 hits and won the game 14-0 in five innings.  Lucas Weigle had two hits and three RBI for the Green Devils, Hayden Meek and Noah Krabbe each had two hits, three runs scored and an RBI.  Isaac Oberfell pitched the complete game shut-out and gave up five hits and struck out four.  Mason Hyde had a pair of hits for Nashua.  The Green Devils improved to 9-10 overall on the season and they moved even in the conference at 6-6 while Nashua fell to 0-14 and 0-13.  Next up for Osage will be a home game against West Fork on Monday and Nashua will be at North Butler Monday.

Mother Nature played a role in the cancelling or postponing of numerous games around the area.  The Nashua-Plainfield vs. Osage softball game was postponed and will now be made up on July 1st.  Nashua is not scheduled to have another game until June 28th and Osage will take part in a tournament tomorrow in Decorah.

The North Butler vs. Riceville softball and baseball games last night were also not played because of the weather.  Both games were cancelled and neither will be made up.  The North Butler softball team will next be in action on Monday when they host Mason City Newman and Nashua-Plainfield while the Bearcat baseball team will host Nashua only on Monday night.

The Rockford Warrior softball and baseball teams also had their non-conference games against Clarksville last night cancelled and those will not be made-up.  Both teams are scheduled to host Central Springs tonight in Top of Iowa Conference play.  Rockford softball sits at 13-11 overall this season and they are 6-7 in the conference while Central Springs is 19-3 and 11-0.  Rockford baseball is 11-9 overall and 4-8 in Top of Iowa Conference games while the Panther baseball team is 11-9 and 6-5.  The softball game is scheduled to start at 6pm and first pitch of the baseball game will be at 7:30.

Other games tonight include the Charles City Comet baseball team who will travel to Waukon for a Northeast Iowa Conference match-up with the Indians.  The Comets will enter tonight’s game at 8-12 overall and they are 4-7 in the NEIC while Waukon is 3-14 and 0-10.  First pitch is scheduled for 7:30.

The Saint Ansgar Saints baseball and softball teams will be in Top of Iowa Conference action tonight at West Fork.  The Saints baseball team comes in at 16-5 overall and 8-1 in conference play while West Fork is 12-2 and 9-2.  The Saint Ansgar softball team is 11-18 overall and 4-7 in TIC games and West Fork softball is 8-6 and 6-5.  The softball game will start at 6pm and the baseball game will begin at 7:30.
