Charles City Comets

The Charles City softball team completed their suspended game from Thursday night with Decorah on July 3rd and won that game over the Vikings, 4-0. That win brought the Comet’s record to 30-6 but it also allowed them to clinch the Northeast Iowa Conference Title. Next up for Charles City will be a regional game on Saturday night against either Independence or Dubuque Wahlert. The Comets played Indee once this season and won 9-1 while they did not face Dubuque Wahlert in the regular season. That regional game will be in Charles City at 7 pm.

The Comet’s baseball team still has four regular season games left on the schedule as they come into these games with a 9-15 record. Thursday night Charles City will travel to St. Ansgar for a game, and they will follow that up with a doubleheader on Friday night at home against Decorah. The Comets will wrap up their regular season next Monday night at Vinton-Shellsburg. Charles City comes into this week fresh off of two losses against New Hampton and Oelwein.

Nashua-Plainfield softball went winless in the regular season but managed to come away with a 9-5 victory over Dunkerton at the regional tournament. The Huskies will take on top-seeded, Clarksville, tonight at 7 pm. Clarksville and Nashua did not faceoff in the regular season. The Huskies come into this game with a record of 1-21 while Clarksville sits at 24-2.

The Husky’s baseball team still has games tonight and tomorrow night before they wrap up their regular season. Tonight’s game will be at Tripoli and tomorrow’s game will be at Clarksville. Nashua-Plainfield baseball did not take on either of these teams this year and they will come into the game with an 0-18 record.

The North Butler softball team comes into the regional tournament in the same bracket as Top of Iowa Conference foe, Nashua-Plainfield. The Bearcats received a first round bye after they had a good regular season. They will take on North Iowa tonight in Allison at 7. These two teams did not cross paths this season. North Butler comes into the postseason with a record of 21-7 while North Iowa is 9-13 after their first round win.

The Bearcat’s baseball team had a game with Rockford on Friday night in a conference showdown. North Butler would lead the entire game as they would go onto win, 6-4. Dalton Nelson, Levi Lubben, and Kendrick Miller each had an RBI in the game for the Bearcats. For the Warriors, Kayden Lyman and Tanner Grady both collected two doubles in the game. North Butler’s next game is against Central Springs tonight while the Rockford will take on Forest City to wrap up their regular season.

Rockford’s softball team hosted Riceville on Monday night for the first round of the regional tournament and won, 11-1. The Warriors will now face Janesville tonight in Janesville. There is no history between these two teams from this season as Rockford rolls into this game with a record of 15-13 while Janesville is 17-18. The winner of this game will take on either Clarksville or Nashua-Plainfield in the next round.

The Saints of St. Ansgar took on Lake Mills Monday night on the baseball diamond and came out victorious with an 11-3 win. St. Ansgar would take an early lead and would not let go. Jared Mayer and Cole Willert each scored three times. Willert also collected three RBIs while Collin Kramer and Bryton Lowe each had three hits. The Saints sit at 22-5 and will host Osage tonight.
