John Carl Picht, age 91, of Plymouth, died Thursday, July 6, 2017, at the Lutheran Retirement Home (LRH) in Northwood.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 13, 2017, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Manly with Pastor Linda Johnson Prestholt officiating. Burial will be at Rock Creek Cemetery, rural Osage. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Manly.
John Carl Picht was born December 22, 1925, on a farm in Story, County, Iowa, the son of John and Beulah (Hilburn) Picht. He graduated from Fernald Consolidated School in 1943. John worked with his father on the farm until he was drafted into the Army in March of 1946. On November 9, 1946, he married LaBonna “Bonnie” Paulson at Rock Creek Lutheran Church in Meroa. John started farming with his father in Story County; then he and Bonnie moved to Worth County where they continued to farm until retirement. John served in many capacities at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. He enjoyed musical activities and table bowling at LRH, and loved being surrounded by his family. John enjoyed his time at LRH and mentioned many times how good the staff treated him as well as the great care they provided.
John is survived by his children, Mark (Barb) Picht of Plymouth, Ann (Dar) Rohlfsen of Ankeny, Echo (Ben) Guenther of Marion, and Shawn (Jeanne) Picht of Charles City; 13 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bonnie in 2013; grandson, Nathan Picht; great-grandson, Gunner Harris; and sister, Pearl Picht.
