KCHA Sports Report (7/11)

The Charles City Comet baseball team wrapped up their regular season last night with a road match-up against third ranked Vinton Shellsburg. After the Vikings struck first with a run in the bottom of the second, the Comets took the lead with two runs in the fourth. Vinton would then go on to score eight unanswered runs and win the game, 9-2. Drew Mitchell pitched the first three innings, gave up one run on one hit, and struck out five. Mitchell also led the Charles City offense with three hits. The Comets end their regular season with a record of 10-20 and they will now focus their attention on the District Tournament. The Comets will take on Decorah Friday night in Waverly in the Class 3A District 5 Semi-Finals.

The summer postseason continues tonight with several area teams competing in softball and baseball games. The Charles City Comet softball team will travel to Van Horn tonight for their Class 4A Region 4 Final against Benton Community. The Comet softball team comes in ranked 14th with an overall record of 31-6 while Benton is top-ranked in Class 4A and are 32-6 this season. The winner advances to the State Tournament. You can tune into this game right here on KCHA starting with a pre-game at 6:45 with first pitch scheduled for 7 pm.

The North Butler Bearcat softball team will also be vying for a State Tournament berth tonight as they get set to take on Clarksville on the road. The Bearcats are 23-7 overall this season and come in ranked 13th while Clarksville is ranked sixth and is 27-2. This Class 1A Region 4 Final will also have the first pitch at 7pm.

The Nashua-Plainfield Husky baseball team will travel to New Albin tonight for a Class 1A District 5 Quarter-Final against Kee High. Nashua comes in with a record of 1-19 while Kee High is 22-10. First pitch will be at 7pm.

The North Butler Bearcat baseball team will open up postseason play tonight at a neutral site as they will take on AGWSR in Sheffield. The Bearcats enter the postseason with a record of 7-13 while AGWSR comes in at 8-7. First pitch of this Class 1A District 4 Quarter-Final will be at 5 pm.

The Rockford Warrior baseball team will also be in a Class 1A District 4 Quarter-Final tonight as they will take on Clarksville in Mason City. The Warriors finished the regular season with a record of 12-13 while Clarksville enters the game at 12-12. First pitch from Mason City Newman’s field will be at 5 pm.

The Saint Ansgar Saints baseball team will have a home game to open up postseason play tonight as they will welcome in Postville for a Class 1A District 5 Quarter-Final. The Saints are 24-6 overall this season and Postville ended their regular season with a 2-21 mark. First pitch will be at 7 pm.
