Welcome to this edition of your local and area sports report here on KCHA. Today’s Report is brought to you in part by Mason City Powersports and First Citizens Bank. It is Friday, July 14th. I’m Luke Maiers.

The postseason baseball schedule continued last night as the Iowa High School Athletic Association had Class 1A District Semi-Final games all over the state. The North Butler Bearcat baseball team was in Mason City last night for a District 4 Semi-Final against West Fork. The Bearcats were unable to get any offense going in the game as they were shut out 4-0 which ended their season. North Butler baseball ends up with a record of 8-14.

The Saint Ansgar Saints baseball team was at home last night for their Class 1A District 5 match-up with Riceville. Saint Ansgar took an early 3-0 lead after two innings, but a seven run inning for the Saints in the third really blew the game open as they won easily, 12-0. The Saints used three pitchers to complete the shut out as Collin Kramer threw the first two innings, Ben Boerjan pitched the next two and two thirds innings, and Jared Mayer got the final out of the game to secure the victory in five innings. Seven different Saints scored runs in the game with Mayer, Cole Willert, Jarrett Woods, and Adam Williams all scoring multiple runs. With the win, Saint Ansgar baseball improves to 26-6 this season and they will play in the District Finals tomorrow night at Kee High. Kee High was 9-8 winners over Turkey Valley last night and they will come in to tomorrow night’s game with a record of 24-10. First pitch for the game tomorrow night in New Albin will be at 7pm.

The Charles City Comet baseball team will open up their postseason tournament tonight with a Class 3A District 5 Semi-Final against Decorah. The Comets come in with a record of 10-20 while the Vikings finished the season at 21-8. These two Northeast Iowa Conference foes faced each other three times this season with Decorah taking all three. Back on June 16th, Decorah won their match-up 13-2 in five innings and then last week the Vikings swept the Comets in a double-header in Charles City by final scores of 9-2 and 4-1. You can tune into tonight’s District Semi-Final right here on KCHA starting with a pre-game at about 4:45 and first pitch from Hertel Field in Waverly will be at 5 pm.

The New Hampton Chickasaw baseball team will play in the Class 2A District 5 Final tomorrow night at home against South Winneshiek. The Chickasaw baseball team comes in top-ranked in Class 2A with a record of 31-2 and South Winn comes in at 20-13. These two teams met once during the regular season when the Warriors hosted New Hampton in the first game of the season way back on May 22nd. The Chickasaws won the game 12-0 in five innings. You can tune into this game tomorrow night on our sister station 951 The Bull starting with a pre-game at 6:45 and first pitch will be at 7pm.
