The Charles City Comet softball team will begin their 2017 State Tournament tonight with a Class 4A Quarter-Final match-up with Fairfield. The Comets come in as the seven seed in the tournament and will take on a Fairfield team that they do not know much about. Head Comet softball coach Brian Bohlen says even though Fairfield is a bit of a mystery, his team has done a good job of in-game adjusting this season.

Coach Bohlen expects another large following by the Charles City faithful and he was quick to say thank you to the community for their continued support.

The Comets come into tonight’s game with a record of 32-6 while Fairfield has an overall record of 33-9. You can tune into this game right here on KCHA starting with a pre-game at about 4:40 and first pitch is scheduled for 5 pm.

The New Hampton Chickasaw baseball team will be in a Class 2A Sub-State Final tonight as they try to earn the program’s first trip to the State Tournament. The Chickasaws will take on Denver in Cedar Falls. Last year it was the Cyclones who knocked off New Hampton in the same game. The Chickasaws come in top-ranked in Class 2A and they enter with a record of 32-2 while Denver comes in at 17-14. These two teams met during the regular season back on June 8th in Denver and the Chickasaws won that game 8-4.
