KCHA Sports Report (8/24)

The Charles City Comet boys and girls cross country teams will kick off their season tonight with a home meet.  Denver, Dike-New Hartford and Waverly-Shell Rock will be the other schools competing in this race which will be held at Wildwood Golf Course in Charles City.  The girls race will begin at 6pm with the boys race to follow.

There will be some area volleyball teams who will be in action tonight.  The Nashua-Plainfield Husky volleyball team will travel to Rockford tonight for a Top of Iowa Conference match-up with the Warriors.  Nashua comes in with a record of 0-1 while Rockford is 1-0 this season.  This will be the first conference match for both teams.  First serve is set for 7pm.

The Osage Green Devil volleyball team will be in Top of Iowa Conference action tonight at Mason City Newman.  This will be the season opener for both teams and the match will get underway at about 7pm.

The North Butler Bearcat volleyball team will open up their season tonight in Top of Iowa Conference action at Northwood-Kensett.  The Vikings come into the match tonight at 1-0.  This match also begins at 7pm.

The Saint Ansgar Saints volleyball team will be on the road tonight for a Top of Iowa Conference match-up against Central Springs.  This will be the first match of the season for the Saints while Central Springs already has three matches in.  First serve from Manly will be at 7pm.

I little more than a week before coach his first game as Iowa’s offensive coordinator Brian Ferentz still does not have a starting quarterback. Sophomore Nathan Stanley and junior Tyler Wiegers are competing to get the start at home against Wyoming.

Ferentz says choosing one over the other will not readically change their game plan.

Stanley was the backup to C.J. Beathard last season but the competition was reopened during spring drills.
