Charles City Comets

The Charles City Comet girls and boys cross country teams opened up their season last night with a home meet at the Wildwood Golf Course.  Denver, Dike-New Hartford and Waverly Shell-Rock were the other schools competing in this Varsity meet.  Head Comet girls cross country coach Amanda Rawmiller talks about how her team did.

The Comet girls and boys cross country teams will return to Wildwood next Thursday for their next meet.

Checking in on some area volleyball results from last night now.  The Nashua-Plainfield Husky volleyball team was in Rockford last night for a Top of Iowa Conference match.  The Huskies squeaked out all three games with score of 25-23, 26-24, and 27-25 to sweep the Warriors.  Nashua improves to 1-1 on the season and 1-0 in conference play while Rockford is 1-1 and 0-1.  Both teams will again be in action on Tuesday with Nashua hosting Northwood-Kensett and Rockford will be at West Fork.

The Osage Green Devil volleyball team dominated Mason City Newman Catholic last night in a Top of Iowa Conference road match.  Osage won 3-0 by scores of 25-9, 25-12, and 25-13 to improve to 1-0 on the season and in conference play.  The Green Devils will host Central Springs on Tuesday night for their next competition.

The North Butler Bearcat volleyball team was able to pick up a Top of Iowa Conference win over Northwood Kensett on the road.  North Butler won game one 25-16, they took game two 25-18, they dropped the third game 25-22, but completed the victory by taking game four 25-23.  The Bearcats are 1-0 overall and in TIC games now and will next play tomorrow at a tournament in Clarion.

The Saint Ansgar Saints volleyball team was swept last night in their season opener at Central Springs.  The Saints lost by scores of 25-19, 25-23, and 25-17.  The Saints will look for their first win Tuesday night at Decorah.

Week one of the Iowa High School football season is finally kicks off tonight.  Here are the matchups for our area teams.  The Charles City Comet football team will be at New Hampton.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30.  You can tune into this game right here on KCHA starting with a pre-game at 7pm.  The Nashua-Plainfield Husky football team will be at Postville with kickoff at 7pm.  The Osage Green Devil football team will host Saint Ansgar tonight.  This game will be broadcast on 987 KISS Country with pregame at 7:15 and kickoff at 7:30.  The North Butler Bearcat football team will take on Harris Lake Park at the North Iowa Sports Complex in Buffalo Center.  Kickoff for that game will be at 7pm.  And the Rockford Warrior football team will travel to Manly tonight for a match-up with Central Springs. Kickoff for this game will also be at 7pm.
