In a game heard right here on KCHA Friday night, the Charles City Comet football team hosted Osage.  The Comets and Green Devils traded punches in the first half with Charles City leading 14-12 at the break.  The Comets offense kept momentum in the second half and rolled to a 35-20 win.  Mike Cranshaw went 4-6 passing for the Comets for 124 yards and two touchdowns as the Comet quarterback.  He threw a 60-yard TD pass to Cade Hemaseth and an 11-yard TD pass to Trey Walker.  Dylan Koresh led the Charles City rushing attack with 109 yards and a touchdown, Tyreque Baker had 85 yards on the ground and a touchdown and Elliott Sinwell scored a rushing touchdown as well.  For Osage, quarterback Drew Olson rushed for a touchdown and threw for 223 yards and two touchdowns as he connected with Jayden Hanson for both of those scores.  Hanson ended the night with 179 yards receiving.  The Comet football team is now 1-1 on the season and they will open up District play this Friday night at South Tama.  Osage falls to 0-2 on the year and will play Clarion at home this Friday night for their District opener.

The Nashua-Plainfield Husky football team struggled a bit on Friday night as they hosted seventh-ranked Hudson.  The Huskies were unable to light up the scoreboard as they were shut-out 32-0.  Nashua managed just 63 yards of total offense as Dayton Hanson had 27 passing yards and Mason Hyde led the team in rushing with 23 yards.  Hyde was responsible for the lone turnover forced by the Huskies as he was able to get an interception.  Nashua football falls to 1-1 on the season and they will begin District play this Friday night at Saint Ansgar.

The North Butler Bearcat football team picked up their second win of the season on Friday night as they were able to dominate GMG Garwin 34-6 at home.  The Bearcats were able to run the ball at will as they finished the night with close to 400 rushing yards.  Rhett Lammers had 130 yards on the ground and two touchdowns, Sam Dolan had 89 rushing yards and Brandon Trees ran for 79 yards and two scores.  The other touchdown came on a TD pass from Kane Allison to Lammers.  The North Butler defense forced six turnovers as Lammers Dolan, and Kendrick Miller each had an interception and Dolan, Joseph Mahlstedt and Beau Thompson all had fumble recoveries.  The Bearcat football team is now 2-0 on the season and they will have their first District game on Friday night at West Hancock.

The Rockford Warrior football team suffered another loss on Friday night as they in Armstrong taking on North Union.  The Warrior defense had a tough time with North Union as Rockford lost the game 52-27.  Rockford falls to 0-2 to begin the season and they will open-up District play this Friday night at home against Grundy Center.

The Saint Ansgar Saints football team won their second game in a row on Friday night as they rolled to a 35-12 win at South Winneshiek.  The Saint Ansgar offense rode Dayton Smith to the tune of 146 rushing yards and three touchdowns, Ethan Kirchgatter had 79 rushing yards and a touchdown and he also scored the other touchdown on an 88-yard kickoff return.  The Saints end non-District play with a 2-0 record and they will take that mark into their District opener this Friday night at home against Nashua.

The Charles City Comet volleyball team will open up Northeast Iowa Conference play tonight at home against New Hampton.  After going 0-4 on Saturday in some tough competition in Des Moines, the Comets come in at 3-5 overall while New Hampton is 7-2.  You can tune into this match right here on KCHA starting with a pre-game at 7pm with first serve scheduled for 7:15.

The Nashua-Plainfield Husky volleyball team will be in Top of Iowa Conference home action tonight against Central Springs.  The Huskies are 2-2 overall and 2-1 in conference play while the Panthers come in at 4-2 and 2-1.  First serve is scheduled for 7pm.

The North Butler Bearcat volleyball team will host Saint Ansgar tonight in a Top of Iowa Conference match.  The Bearcats are 5-4 overall this season and come in with a conference record of 2-1 while the Saints are 1-5 and 0-2.  First serve from Allison will be around 7pm.

The Rockford Warrior volleyball team will be at home tonight in Top of Iowa Conference play against Northwood-Kensett.  The Warriors are 1-2 overall and 0-2 in league play while the Vikings are 2-8 and 0-3.  This match is set to begin at 7pm as well.

The Charles City Comet girls and boys cross country teams will be in Waverly tonight for a meet hosted by the Go-Hawks.  Nashua-Plainfield will also take part in this meet which will begin at about 4:50.
