Waterloo, Iowa – A former Army veteran is seeing his time with the Waterloo Police Department come to an end.
Tyler Brownell has been with the WPD since 2009 and in that time, he has been a K-9 handler. He is currently dealing with some medical issues so his years on the force might be coming to an end. Usually when an officer with a K-9 retires, they are gifted the dog, but in Brownell’s case, his dog was still valued at $4,000.
The dog had been serving on the force since 2014. Brownell said he would pay the $4,000 required for the dog, but thanks to two donations, that fee has been covered.
The city council in Waterloo approved this by a unanimous vote, and thanks to donations of $1,500 and $2,500, Brownell will get to keep his dog.
