In a game heard right here on KCHA Friday night, the Charles City Comet football team hosted the Independence Mustangs for their Homecoming game.  The Comets had trouble stopping the Independence offense as the Mustangs scored on the majority of their drives and built a 34-6 lead.  The Comets would not go down quietly as their offense got hot and scored four touchdowns in the second half to get it to within two scores, but that would be as close as it would get as Charles City fell 49-32.  Mike Cranshaw was responsible for three touchdowns as he ran in two and threw another to Elliott Sinnwell.  Dylan Koresh scored a rushing touchdown and Tyreque Baker ran in another score.  The loss drops the Comet football team’s record to 1-4 overall this season and they fall to 0-3 in Class 3A District 3 play.  They will hit the road this Friday night as they will travel to Vinton to take on the Vikings.

The Nashua-Plainfield Husky football team was awarded a win on Friday night as they were scheduled to play North Butler, but the Bearcats had to forfeit the game due to a lack of players.  The win for Nashua gives them an overall record of 3-2 and they are now 2-1 in Class A District 3.  They will play this Friday night at West Fork.  North Butler’s football team falls to 2-3 and 0-3.  They will hopefully be able to play in their game this Friday night at Rockford.

The Osage Green Devil football team hosted Crestwood on Friday night for their Homecoming game.  These two teams ended up being evenly matched with the game being decided by an extra point.  Osage’s Drew Olson went 3-3 on his PATs which gave the Green Devils a 21-20 victory.  Olson scored a rushing touchdown as well and also threw a touchdown pass to Lucas Schwamman.  The other Osage touchdown came on a Jaden Hansen 49 yard punt return.  The Green Devils improved to 3-2 overall with the win and they moved to 2-1 in Class 2A District 2.  Next up for them will be a road game at Forest City this Friday night.

The Rockford Warrior football team failed to pick up their first win of the season on Friday night as they were beaten by Mason City Newman Catholic at home 42-21.  The Warriors are now 0-5 overall and they fall to 0-3 in Class A District 3.  They will go for that first win this Friday night at home against North Butler.

The Saint Ansgar Saints football team remained unbeaten on Friday night after their Class A District 3 win over West Fork.  The Saints were dominant in route to a 46-0 win.  Saint Ansgar used their ground game to do most of their damage as Dayton Smith ran for 128 yards and two touchdowns, Jack Sievert had two rushing touchdowns as well, and Colin Kramer and Josh Van Vliet each ran in a touchdown.  The other touchdown was on a 36 yard pass from Kramer to Hanson.  The Saint Ansgar football team is now 5-0 overall and they improve to 3-0 in District play.  They’ll put their undefeated season on the line this Friday at Grundy Center.

And finally today, the Charles City Comet volleyball team went 2-2 at a tough tournament in Cedar Falls on Saturday.  The Comets picked up wins against Marshalltown and Cedar Rapids Washington, and lost matches to top ranked teams Cedar Falls and Dike-New Hartford.  The Comet volleyball team is now 10-8 overall this season and they will have a Northeast Iowa Conference showdown on Thursday night in Waverly.
