Train Cars Strike Pier Under an Overpass in Mason City

Mason City, IA – Four train cars jumped off the rails under an overpass in Mason City on Tuesday morning. No one was injured in the wreck.

The train was heading northbound hauling 61 mostly empty cars when some of the cars fell off the track under the 12th St. NW overpass. The reason as to why the train went off the tracks is still under investigation.

It was discovered that the cars had actually struck a pier under the overpass. Mason City’s city engineer, Mark Rahm, says that the bridge is still stable.
