KCHA Sports Report (9/28)

KCHA FM

The Charles City Comet volleyball team will be in Waverly tonight for a Northeast Iowa Conference showdown.  The Comets have been on the plus side of this rivalry for the past couple of years, but the Go-Hawks come in ranked higher this season.  Charles City is 10-8 overall this season while Waverly is 22-4.  Both teams come in with 3-0 NEIC records and would have the fast track to the regular season conference title with a win tonight.  You can tune into tonight’s match on the Fabulous 1580 KCHA AM starting with a pre-meet at 7:15 and first serve is scheduled for 7:30.

The Nashua-Plainfield Husky volleyball team will be in Saint Ansgar tonight for a Top of Iowa Conference match against the Saints.  The Huskies are 8-13 overall this season and they come in with a conference record of 3-3 while Saint Ansgar is 7-8 and 4-2 this season.  First serve for this match is scheduled for 7pm.

And finally today, Thursday nights have been kind to Iowa State over the years and the Cyclones hope that continues when they open the Big-12 race at home tonight against Texas. ISU is 10-4 on Thursday nights and a national television audience will also provide an opportunity to showcase the program.

That’s Iowa State coach Matt Campbell who says the Cyclones look forward to the opportunity.

The Cyclones have displayed balance on offense in a 2-1 start that has seen them average more than 40 points per game. A key will be getting running back David Montgomery going against a stout Longhorn front seven.

Texas leads the all-time series 12-2 but in their last visit to Ames in 2015 the Longhorns were blanked 24-0. You can tune into tonight’s game right here on KCHA with kickoff at 7:00p.m.
