New 9-1-1 Services

Chickasaw County, IA – It has been seen in the movies where criminal breaks into a house and someone is hiding in the closet trying to call the police. Now in Chickasaw County, people can notify the police without making a noise.

Residents in Chickasaw County can now text 9-1-1 if they need assistance. Not every carrier uses this technology yet. Chickasaw County’s Emergency Management and 9-1-1 director, AJ Seely, gives an example of when this could be used.

To see if your line is available for this, try contacting your carrier, not the police. Seely says that AT&T, US Cellular, Sprint and Verizon are all capable of doing this.

It is important to include your location in the text because authorities might not know where you are at.

This has been available in Chickasaw County since May, but was just made public recently. Only works are available to send to 9-1-1 as of right now.
