United States – The Boy Scouts of America have been in existence since 1910. Their tradition of helping others, their community and bettering themselves is part what this organization stands for. The tradition is taking a turn, though.
Starting next year, the Boy Scouts of America will start to allow girls into their organization. The Boy Scout label will remain. Younger girls will be able to start in Cub Scouts, and for older girls, they will start on a new program that is based on Boy Scout curriculum to achieve Eagle Scout.
This was approved unanimously by the organization’s board of directors.
Girl Scouts will remain single-gender. Other countries have groups where both genders are allowed in. Some of them also have gender-neutral names.
