The Charles City Comet girls and boys cross country teams were in Manchester last night competing in their Class 3A State Qualifying Meet at the Heart Ridge Golf Course in Manchester.  Head Comet girls cross country coach Amanda Rahmiller fills us in on the Comet girls runners.

Head Comet boys cross country coach also had some good news after last night’s race.

The Comet girls and the three Comet boys will run at the State Meet next Saturday in Fort Dodge.

The Nashua-Plainfield, North Butler, Rockford and Saint Ansgar boys and girls cross country teams were at Eagle Grove last night for their Class 1A State Qualifying Meet which was held at the Eagle Grove Country Club.  On the boys side, there was one area runner who was able to advance to the State Meet.  Brock Dietz of Nashua-Plainfield finished with a time of 17 minutes and 25 seconds which put him in fifth overall.  On the girls side, Rockford’s Sheridan LaCoste finished in third overall to qualify for the State Meet, Addy Carlson of Saint Ansgar also qualified with her sixth place finish and Nashua-Plainfield’s Aubry Einck finished in ninth place to advance to State.  These athletes will also run at the State Meet in Fort Dodge next Saturday.

The Osage Green Devil girls and boys cross country teams ran at their Class 2A State Qualifying Meet at Fox Ridge Golf Course in Dike.  For the Osage girls, Maddie Johnson narrowly missed making it to State as she was the top finisher for the Green Devils and came in 18th place.  The Osage boys were unable to get anyone through either as their top finisher was Caleb Sledd who came in 23rd place.

Tonight marks the final week of the Iowa High School football regular season.  The Charles City Comet football team will conclude their season tonight with a Class 3A District 3 home game against Waverly-Shell Rock.  The Comets are 2-6 overall this season and are 1-5 in District play while the Go-Hawks are 7-1 and 5-1.  You can tune into this game right here on KCHA starting with a pre-game at 7pm and kickoff will be at 7:30.

The Nashua-Plainfield Husky football team will be trying to punch their ticket to the playoffs tonight as they get set to take on West Hancock in a Class A District 3 game at home.  The Huskies are 6-2 overall this season and they are 5-1 in District play while West Hancock comes in at 5-3 and 5-1.  If Nashua wins, they clinch a playoff berth, but could still sneak their way in if they lose and get some help.  Kickoff from Nashua will be at 7pm.

The Osage Green Devil football team will be in search of a playoff berth tonight as they will take on Garner-Hayfield-Ventura on the road in a Class 2A District 2 match-up.  The Green Devils are 4-4 overall this season and 4-2 in District play.  Osage needs a win and some help around the state if they are going to advance.  You can tune into this game on our sister station 987 KISS Country starting with a pre-game at about 7:15 and kickoff is scheduled for 7:30.

The North Butler Bearcat football team will wrap-up their regular season tonight with a Class A District 3 game at home against Mason City Newman.  The Bearcats are 3-5 overall this season and 1-5 in the District while Newman comes in at 4-4 and 2-4.  Kickoff for this game will be at 7pm.

The Rockford Warrior football team will host Saint Ansgar tonight in a Class A District 3 game.  These two teams are on opposite sides of the standings as the Warriors are winless at 0-8 overall and 0-6 in the District while the Saints have clinched a playoff berth and are 8-0 and 6-0.  Kickoff for this one will also be at 7pm.
