In a match heard right here on KCHA last night, the Charles City Comet volleyball team was in Waverly taking on the Go-Hawks in a Class 4A Region 5 Final.  The Comets came out sluggish and lost the first game 25-9 and could never recover as Waverly easily won game two 25-17 and game 3 25-14 to take the match three games to none.  The Comet volleyball team finishes their season with a record of 25-15.

The Osage Green Devil volleyball team was in Clear Lake last night for their Class 3A Region 4 Final against Forest City.  The Green Devils were clicking on all cylinders last night as they were able to sweep past the Indians three games to none by scores of 25-15, 25-16 and 25-15.  Kelsey Havel led Osage with 18 kills and Brenna Jacobs had seven.  The Green Devils advance to the Class 3A State Tournament with a record of 25-9.  Their first round match-up will be a week from tomorrow at 10am against Tipton.

Iowa State’s surge to the top of the Big 12 standings and to number 14 in the AP Poll is garnering national attention but coach Matt Campbell says it won’t change the focuse for his team. The Cyclones take a four-game winning streak on the road this week to take on West Virginia.

Campbell says the Cyclones won’t forget what got them to this point.

Campbell says the Cyclones won’t have trouble remaining humble even as they receive national praise.

Sophomore linebacker Marcel Spears is the Big 12 Defensive Player oif the Week for the second straight time. Spears had nine tackles and his late interception sealed a 14-7 win over TCU.

Campbell says Iowa State’s linebackers are playing well in part because of how well the defensive line is playing.

Another key for the defense has been the punting of Colin Downing that is helping ISU own the field position battle.
