Waucoma, IA – Every game for the last nine years there has been an honorary Kid Captain at Iowa Hawkeye football games. The kid selected weekly is a former patient at the UofI Stead Family Children’s Hospital. This week’s honoree will be from a northeast Iowa city.

13-year-old Logan Manderfield of Waucoma is the chosen one for this weekend’s game against the Ohio St. Buckeyes.

When Logan was around the age of one, his parents noticed he was struggling with crawling, walking and some other issues as well. A few months later his pediatrician referred him to the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital.

It was determined that he had Duchenne muscular dystrophy. This disease affects mostly boys and is a severe degenerative muscle disorder. Logan’s muscles will weaken over time.

He remains active by managing his school’s football, basketball, wrestling and baseball teams. Logan will be at midfield this Saturday before the Iowa game dawning the black and gold Hawkeye jersey.
